Company Description
Our client is a mid-sized industrial manufacturing company based in the Midwestern
United States. They are looking for an Asia Controller to work in their Suzhou,
China office.
Responsibilities
- Primary financial advisor to the Director of Asian Operations and management teams within the region to develop, monitor, and manage financial performance.
- Provides timely analysis, insight, and direction in support of key local, regional, and corporate objectives.
- With direction from corporate, coordinates cash management and working capital position of regional locations.
- Plans, directs and controls the overall financial plans, policies and accounting practices of the Asian operations in line with corporate policies and guidelines. Ensures compliance with local statutory reporting requirements and translates to US GAAP for corporate reporting.
- Directs, coordinates, and contributes to the development of annual financial budget and subsequent forecast updates.
- Primary financial contact to regional internal financial personnel and external subcontract financial firms. Provides direction and ensures compliance with reporting formats
- Plans and directs the preparation of month and year end financial reporting.
- Prepares monthly financial forecasts, periodic financial reviews, and annual plan updates.
- Coordinates interim and annual audit activities as determined by corporate and the lead audit team. Prepares annual reporting package.
- Manages employees and responsible for development, coaching, and motivation, and recruitment of accounting staff within the region.
- Establishes credit and collection policies and ensures compliance to such policies.
- Develops and coordinates appropriate accounting and statistical data and reports.
- Analyzes and interprets results from operations, highlighting significant differences from plan or forecast and makes recommendations for operational improvements.
- Identifies and initiates process improvements in financial processes and systems.
- Directs compliance of all annual report filings.
- Participates in special/corporate projects as necessary.
- Maintains contacts with accountants, lawyers, consultants, banks, taxing authorities, and other financial service organizations. Effectively negotiates terms of service when necessary (i.e. audit fees, global insurance coverages).
Requirements
- Written and verbal fluency (ability to precisely convey and comprehend interpersonal, technical, and strategic subject matter is a must) in Mandarin and English. Proficiency with other Asian languages considered a plus.
- Experience in managing strategic and operational aspects of the business.
- Proven abilities in understanding all financial aspects, problem solving, making quality decisions, and results-orientation.
- Must be able to effectively organize and prioritize the work of the function. Must be able to meet reporting deadlines consistently.
- Well-developed economic and financial analytical skills.
- Proven abilities in developing harmonious interpersonal relations and motivating people. Must be able to work as part of an international team and represent the interests of the region effectively.
- Track record of taking a hands-on approach to improving key business results.
- Experience with implementing process improvements.
- Computer literate, MS desktop tools, ERP solutions.
- Must be adaptable to flexible work schedule to communicate with international subsidiaries.
- Must be willing and able to travel internationally.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting. Master’s degree preferred.
- CPA designation or equivalent preferred.
- 10 years experience in accounting, primarily in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 5 years in a management capacity.
- Prior experience working in a subsidiary of a United States parent company.
